Happy Earth Day!!!

Hey Guys!
Happy Earth Day!! In the spirit of Earth Day, I thought it would be cool to make a little post about three things we can do to help the environment. These are simple, everyday changes that most people do, but not everyone.

1. Recycle- Recycling is an easy way to help save the planet, because the plastic bottles, glass bottles and aluminum cans that get thrown in the trash take hundred of years to decompose, and that is if they even make it to a dump site. The ones that don't, usually find their way into our oceans, where they can cause harm the wonderful creatures in the sea, beachgoers on the shore, and the environment itself.

2. Reusable Bags- Plastic bags used to bag groceries, craft supplies, cloths, etc. are very harmful to the planet. A non-degradable plastic bag can take hundreds of years to break down in a landfill, again assuming it makes its way into the landfill, and then for those hundreds of years, they release toxins into the earth. The plastic bags that do not make it to landfills, often find their way into oceans, streams, and lake, forests, mountains, and farms. Animals mistake these bags for food, (especially in the ocean- a floating bag, and jellyfish can look very similar!) and can get lodged into the poor animals throat, causing it to suffocate. Or the bag will get stuck around it's head, neck or body, causing a multitude of problems for that poor, innocent animal. We should all switch to reusable bags. They are much sturdier, last longer, and do not cause harm to our planet.

3. Reduce the amount of Paper and Wood products- Our Rainforest's are dying because of the amount of trees that are cut down each year. By cutting down all of those trees, we are killing the natural habitat and homes of many creatures. Plants create oxygen, so we are also cutting down our fresh air supply. In order to prevent this, there are some things we can do. If you are in college, or high school (and your teacher allows it) take your notes down on our laptops, or tablets. It could save hundreds of trees from becoming notebooks. Opt for reusable cloth bags, instead of paper ones that are made of trees. Instead of paper towels, we can use cloth towels to dry our hands and clean up spills. And finally, by recycling our newspapers and other paper products, we can save hundreds of trees, because that paper will be reused for something else.

These are simple, little everyday changes that, if we all made, would make a huge difference! I love nature and animals, and want to see our planet healthy and strong. I don't want the future generations to inherit a planet thats natural beauty has been lost because we polluted our oceans, and cut down all of our rain forests! Hundreds of thousands of animals are impacted each year by our trash, and consumer needs and that is not fair to them. I don't see them ripping down my home, or polluting my backyard, so why should we do the same to them?
Thanks for reading! I know I have strong feelings on this subject, and I would love to here your own thoughts and opinions! I hope you all have a wonderful week! Happy Earth Day!!!!

           Lots of Luck,
                Mallory
