Pantone Universe have named the Color of the Year and it is "Radiant Orchid,"(I know I'm a bit late with this post, sorry!) and I could not have been happier! Finally, a wearable color!!! I liked last year's "Emerald Green," but it wasn't the most practical color for everyday! After announcing the color, Sephora + Pantone came out with a cosmetic range featuring that color! There were so many lovely items from a lip balm, and lipstick, to blushes and eyeshadows. Now, I didn't need another eye shadow pallet, but somehow it made its way home with me and I am so glad it did! This palette is so versatile and well made (pigmentation-wise, I have a small issue with the packaging.) Here are my thoughts on the Sephora+ Pantone Universe Color of the Year "The Eye: Radiant Femme Artistry Set:"
Lets start with the packaging, it is pretty large for a shadow palette. It actually looks like a small Apple Mac laptop. It is made out of a sturdy plastic and is fairly weighty for an eyeshadow palette. The size of it is inconvenient and convenient at the same time. When I travel, I like to take my palette in my purse, (I'm so scared they are going to smash!) and this one actually fits nicely in my laptop case with my laptop.
My real annoyance with this palette is that there is no real closing mechanism, like there is no "snapping" sound or a metallic clasp to ensure the palette is actually closed. Other than that, it is beautifully designed. I love the ombre radiant orchid color on the front and the huge mirror that comes on the inside. The palette also comes with a little book with face charts designed by Aaron de Mey, (a master makeup artist!!!) showing us an example of how to use each quad with the "radiant orchid" shade.
Inside the palette their are six quads of eyeshadows that are designed to be used with the "radiant orchid" shade on the bottom.
Overall, the color and quality of the shadows are really nice! Most of the shadows have beautiful color pay off, there are a few that I wasn't thrilled with, but even those are still gorgeous to work with. The matte shades are not chalky and blend very nicely, while the shimmer shades have an amazing pigmentation. The glitter shades are wonderful, being more of a shimmer with teeny tiny glitter particles in them. The only major downside is that the shadows have a lot of fall out in the pan. You go to swish your brush in a shadow and a ton fallout makes its way all over the palette.
"Cream Dream" is the name of the first quad. This is a gorgeous neutral quad, containing two matte, "Peach Champagne" and "Fairy Tale," one shimmer, "Peach Whip," and one glitter, "Almost Apricot," eyeshadow shades. The only shadow that I am not thrilled with in this set is "Peach Champagne." It blends nicely and it is not chalky, but the color just doesn't really show up on me that well. This is a great, light, everyday eye look.

The next quad is "Rare Earth." "Dawn" and "Rain Drum," are matte shades, while "Rose Cloud" and "Camel" are both gorgeous shimmer shades. This is my favorite quad in the palette for an everyday look because of that gorgeous dark brown matte shade. "Rose Cloud" makes for such a gorgeous inner highlight color on me!

L to R: "Dawn," "Rose Cloud," "Camel," "Rain Drum" |
"Birds of Paradise," has three shimmer shades, "Glacier," "Blue Spruce," and "Ensign Blue." "Centre Blue" is a glitter finish. "Glacier" could be my favorite shadow in the whole palette. It is very versatile, being used for both neutral and dramatic looks alike. It can be worn on its own or over top of another shadow. As for the rest of the shades, they are beautiful, but they are not an everyday look for me. So I am going to have a lot of fun experimenting with them!

"Venus Rising" is my kind of nighttime, going out, look. It has two, crucial matte shades, "Sheer Pink" and "Vineyard White." "Fudgesickle," is a glitter finish and "Mulberry Purple," is a shimmer color. I love colors like "Fudgesickle," especially for a smokey eye on nights out.

L-R: "Sheer Pink," "Fudgesickle," "Vineyard Wine," "Mulberry Purple." |
"Primal Flower" is the next quad in the palette and this is the one that I am most interested to try purely because of the shade "Cornsilk," which is a shimmery, yellow-gold. The other shadows in the quad are "Toasted Almond," which is matte, "Red Violet," which is a shimmer, and "Deep Taupe," which is a glitter.

L-R: "Cornsilk," "Toasted Almond," "Red Violet," "Deep Taupe." |
The final quad in the palette is "Midnight Orchid," which is a lovely traditional smokey eye quad. With shades like "Snow White," and "Caviar," which are both matte and then the shimmer shades "Silver," and "Quiet Shade," you can't go wrong!

L-R: "Snow White," "Silver," "Quiet Shade," "Caviar." |
The final shadow is the Color of the Year shade, "Radiant Orchid," which is mostly matte but has a touch of glitter running through it. For some reason I was not overly thrilled with the pigmentation of this shadow, which is slightly disappointing because it is the star of the show. However, having said that, it is still a very nice shadow to use and work with.
